Rough start for Midway in 2011

The Tellico Plains Lady Bears used 30 team steals to cruise to a 70-21 win over the Midway Lady Waves Monday night. 

Tellico Plains had a 10-2 stretch at one point in the opening period to take an 18-7 advantage into the second period. A 12-2 surge at one point stretched the lead to 36-16 at halftime. 

A 22-3 third period and a 12-2 final period would make the eventual final score 70-21. 

Midway had a 34-30 edge on the boards, but lost in team steals, 30-5. 

The Lady Bears were led by Jessi Parson (22 points, 6 steals), Kristan Moses (10 points), Storyie Miller (10 points, 7 steal, 5 assists) and Sarah McKinnon (9 points, 7 boards).

Midway was led in defeat by Hayley Roberson (7 points, 8 boards), and Alisa Barger (5 points). 

Darian Shultz (8 boards) and Allyson Klinker (5 boards) each played well in defeat.

Boys Game

Despite the hot three-point shooting of Matt Jarvis, the Midway Green Wave could not overcome a 13-5 gap in team steals Monday night, falling to the Tellico Plains Bears, 56-47. 

Midway started off with a 9-2 run before the Bears drew to within 11-7 at the end of the first period. A 17-5 tilt by the Bears through most of period number two made the score 26-18 at halftime in favor of the Bears. 

Tellico Plains seemed poise to blow the game away with a 11-5 run to take the lead to 37-23. But the Waves, in the words of Lee Corso said "Not so fast, my friends," to the thoughts of a Tellico Plains runaway, and used clutch three-point shooting to go on a 13-4 tilt to close out the period trailing 41-36.

Midway got within three points early in the final period, but faded down the stretch as the Bears took the 56-47 win. 

Midway had a 28-25 tilt on the boards and an 8-1 three-point shooting advantage, but lost in team steals 13-5. 

Tellico Plains was led by Eric Craft (19 points, 8 boards), Preston Russell (18 points, 8 boards, 5 assists, and Robert Vandervort (10 points).

Midway was led on offense by Matt Jarvis (20 points, 6 three-pointers), Josh Manning (11 points, 5 boards), and Thomas Viar (6 points, 10 boards, 5 assists).
