RSCC extends deadline for festival of trees

-A A +A

The application deadline for sponsoring a tree in the Festival of Trees at the Roane State Community College’s “Lighting of the Tree” festivities was extended to Monday, Nov. 12.

The entry fee is $75 (including tree and tree stand.)

The application form instructions for registration will be on the Lighting of the Tree website at roanestate.edu/treelighting.

The annual “Roane County Lighting of the Tree” will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, on the front lawn of Roane State Community College’s main campus at 276 Patton Lane.

“There will be a large variety of holiday music, games and activities for children, and refreshments. It’s Roane County’s take on the famous tree lighting ceremony in New York City’s Rockefeller Center,” said Tamsin Miller Roane State Alumni Relations Director.

“This will function as an introduction to all the holiday events throughout the county,” she said.

“It will bring families from all over the county together in celebration and song!” Miller said.

Weather permitting, performances will be outside and begin at 6 p.m. with an assortment of holiday music performed by Roane State’s Concert Choir and the Celebration Singers.

The 20-foot-tall Mountain Pine tree will be illuminated for the season in a ceremony at 6:15 p.m.

The lighting will be followed by holiday songs performed by choirs from Roane County’s high schools and elementary schools.

A variety of children’s games are planned.

The children will also have a chance to have their pictures taken with Santa.

Concessions will include complimentary hot cider and cocoa.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase from food trucks that will be at the tree lighting ceremony as well.

The Roane State Foundation is sponsoring the Festival of Trees for school groups, churches, organizations, businesses or individuals.

Sponsored trees will be displayed on the outside veranda of the Vann Student Lounge located at the Dunbar Building, facing the soccer field.

Musical groups wishing to participate should register online at roanestate.edu/treelighting.
