Roane County Schools are closed for the rest of the week.


Kingston trash pickup

Due to the weather related issues this week, the garbage collection for the city Of Kingston‘s Thursday and Friday routes will be delayed. City workers plan to have both routes completed by Saturday and ask that residents leave trash at the curb until then. Some streets remain too dangerous for the trucks, so those streets will be picked up on the normal collection day next week.


Children's Museum of Oak Ridge

Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge has announced that the International Festival scheduled for this Saturday, Feb. 21, has been postponed due to weather forecasts for snow and freezing rain Friday night and a wintery mix Saturday morning. The Festival is rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28, at the museum, 461 West Outer Dr., Oak Ridge.


Roane County Commission Board of Education

Roane County Board of Education meeting scheduled for Feb. 19 has been cancelled.

Tennessee Medieval Faire auditions

Due to cold weather, open actor auditions for the Tennessee Medieval Faire (previously called the East Tennessee Renaissance Festival) has moved from Saturday, Feb. 21, to Feb. 28 from 2-5 p.m. at 125 Barrie Lane, Kingston. For more information, email DarkhorseLLC@comcast.net or call 466-1902.


District 4-A basketball tournament

District tournament at Harriman High School is postponed until Thursday.

Tellico Plains vs. Harriman girls at 1 p.m.

Meigs County vs. Tellico Plains boys at 2:30 p.m. Meigs County vs. Grace Christian girls at 4 p.m.

Grace Christian vs. Harriman boys at 5:30 p.m.


District 4-AA basketball tournament

All District 4-AA games at Knoxville Catholic will be played on Friday.
Kingston girls will play at 4 p.m. and boys will play at 5:30 p.m.


DAR program, book signing

Southwest Point Chapter NSDAR announces the cancellation of the book signing by Shirley McCracken. The free event was scheduled for Feb. 21 at the Kingston Church of Christ. Shirley McCracken is the author of The Breastplate: Civil War Adventure. The discussion, book signing and book sale will be rescheduled to a later date.
