Tigers pick up district sweep

It may have been raining cats and dogs outside, but the Rockwood Lady Tigers were making it rain three-pointers on the Greenback Lady Cherokees converting seven total, five by Reanna Henderson, as the Lady Tigers pounced on the Lady 'Kees, 53-25. 

Rockwood struck early and often with a 17-6 lead at the end of the first period and a 31-10 lead at halftime. 

Both teams scored six points in the third period to make the score 37-16 and in the final stanza, the Lady Tigers used a 10-2 surge down the stretch to take the 53-25 win. 

Henderson (19 points, 5 three-pointers) was Rockwood’s leading scorer while Jade Napier (8 points), Kiley Gunter and Kellie Mead (6 points each) all played well in the win.

Greenback was led on offense by Stephanie Rhyne (7 points) and Samantha McCollum (6 points, 5 boards).

Boys Game

Things were tenuous for a half, but the Rockwood Tigers pulled away in the second half for a 64-49 win Tuesday night. 

Rockwood had an early 5-1 advantage before an 11-2 surge by the 'Kees made the score 12-7, but the Tigers scored the final five points of the opening period to make the score tied at 12-12. 

Rockwood outscored Greenback 13-12 in period number two to take a 25-24 halftime lead. 

Rockwood had a 12-6 run at one point in the third period to give them the 41-34 lead going into the final period. An 11-5 surge during one stretch of the final stanza made the final score 64-49. 

Brendan Kirkland (24 points, 7 boards) led all scorers with Harold Huffman (10 points, 5 boards) and Jared Breazeale (10 points) each reaching double digits. Cleveland Davidson (8 points, 6 assists) and Riley Clem (6 points, 7 assists, 5 boards) all played well in the win.
