Tigers sweep Green Waves in 3-A action

What a difference one night makes. After getting trounced by Kingston the night before, the Rockwood Lady Tigers redeemed themselves with a 69-39 win over the Midway Lady Waves.

Midway would hit the first three points and the last three points of the opening period, but in between there was a 17-4 run by the Lady Tigers, giving them a 17-10 lead early on.

Runs of 12-3 and 9-1 in the second period then helped give the Lady Tigers a 38-18 halftime lead.

Midway cut the lead to 18 in the third period to make the score 48-30 going into the final stanza. But the final period was all Rockwood as they used a 16-6 stretch at one point to take the 69-39 win.

Rockwood had a 42-28 advantage in rebounds and a 15-7 tilt in team steals.
Reanna Henderson (20 points), Kiley Gunter (16 points, 10 boards) and Allison Breazeale (10 points, 9 boards) led the Lady Tigers in scoring.

Also with stellar showings for Rockwood were Shaley Grant (8 points, 8 boards) and Jade Napier (6 points).

Midway was paced by Hayley Roberson (17 points, 9 boards) and Allyson Klinker (8 points).

Boys Game

The boys from "South Of the River" gave the Rockwood Tigers all they could handle for a half, but an 18-3 run in the third period by Rockwood allowed them to cruise to a 51-38 win over the Green Wave.

Rockwood took an early 19-13 lead in the opening period, thanks in part to an 8-2 run to close out the period.

Midway was down 24-13 at one stretch of the second period before embarking on a 14-5 tilt that got them within 31-29 at the half.

The third period, however, was all Rockwood as they outscored Midway 18-3 to take a 49-32 lead into the final period.

Midway got the final score down to 51-38 in a very defense-oriented final period.

Rockwood had a 34-20 advantage on the boards but lost in team steals, 7-4. Three-pointers, however, was where Rockwood had a clear-cut advantage over Midway with a 5-0 tilt in that department.

Rockwood was led by Brendan Kirkland (21 points, 11 boards), and Cleveland Davidson (13 points, 6 boards).

Jared Breazeale (7 points) and Harold Huffman (10 boards) both fared well in the win.

Midway was led by Caleb Ruffner (10 points), Thomas Viar (8 points, 8 boards) and Matt Jarvis (6 points).

Josh Manning (5 boards) also played well in the loss.
