What is Newspaper In Education?

A valuable resource in the curriculums of Roane County Schools doesn’t cost the taxpayers a dime.

The Roane County News distributes 2,290 copies of the newspaper weekly to all 18 of Roane County’s K-12 public schools and to Calvary Baptist School in Kingston as part of the Newspapers in Education program.

Neva Lang-Peters, circulation manager of the Roane County News, said teachers report using the newspaper in lessons for history, political science and current events. It enforces the importance of reading, spelling and language skills while helping the county’s youth keep abreast of events in the world around them.

The Roane County News has participated in the Newspapers in Education program for more than 20 years. The generosity of area sponsors enables the Roane County News to continue with this worthy service for the county’s students.
