  • McKameys Hometown Singing coming up

    The McKameys, a premier East Tennessee family gospel-singing group from Clinton, will host their annual Hometown Singing on June 8-9 in Clinton Second Baptist Church.

    The Inspirations of Bryson City, N.C., will be the special guest at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

    Saturday’s special guest will be the Primitive Quartet of Candler, N.C. at 6 p.m.

    Reserved seating is $15; general admission is $13.

  • Aglow plans event in Princess Theatre

    “The Sound from Heaven” is the theme of a special worship, testimony, activities and ministry planned by Harriman Lighthouse of Aglow International on May 26.

    The event will start at 6:30 p.m. in the Princess Theatre at 421 N. Roane St., Harriman.

    The celebration includes Hebrew dancing and a special presentation by Maxine Raines, founder and director of Lost Sheep Ministry, Knoxville.

  • St. Andrew’s collecting stuffed animals Sunday

    Parishioners and guests at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Harriman, are asked to bring a new stuffed animal — with the tags still attached — to the 10 a.m. service on Mother’s Day, May 13.

    These toys will be brought forward for a blessing and then sent to area law-enforcement agencies to be used as needed.

    Little Leaf Baptist Church, Oliver Springs, will observe its 122nd church homecoming on May 6.

    Elder Kenneth Lewis, associate minister of Little Leaf, will be the morning speaker. The afternoon speaker will be the Rev. William Caldwell from Mount Sinai Baptist Church of Clinton.

    Little Leaf is at 228 E. Tri County Blvd.

    The history of Little Leaf Baptist Church has been compiled from living memories and faded records of days gone by.

  • Christian drug awareness youth rally today

    A Christian Drug Awareness Youth Rally will start at 6 p.m. April 27 in New Midway Baptist Church, Kingston.

    Guest speakers include Roane County Sheriff Jack Stockton and individuals who have gone to Christian rehabilitation homes to fight their addictions.

    The event will include music, food and testimony.

    There will also be participation from Turning Point Ministries of Roane County and New Creations of El Centro, Calif.

    New Midway Baptist Church is at 240 New Midway Road.

  • Courthouse venue for National Day of Prayer

    As American troops remain in harm’s way, the economy continues to waiver, and the upcoming elections approach, citizens of the United States are preparing to exercise their freedom to gather, worship and pray.

    Millions will answer the call to prayer on Thursday, May 3, in observance of the 61st annual National Day of Prayer.

    Roane County is among the sites for this year’s organized events.

  • Bishop to be at St. Andrew’s

    The Right Reverend George D. Young III, fourth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of East Tennessee, will visit St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Harriman at 4 p.m. April 22.

    This is a special visit for the purpose of offering the sacrament of Confirmation to Sarah Hooper, Lani Patterson, Mason Patterson, Bill White and Linda White.

    A reception welcoming the bishop and honoring the church’s new members will immediately follow.
