  • HPD look into body at RMC

    The Harriman Police Department is investigating a suspicious death that occurred Tuesday afternoon.

    According to Det. Sgt. Kent Warren, officers from the department responded to Roane Medical Center on a report of a group of individuals who brought a deceased female to the emergency room.

  • Teenager charged in fatal shooting

    An arrest has been made in the Tuesday morning shooting death of 19-year-old George D. Fleagle II of Rockwood.

    Dorian Joseph Heiss, 18, was arrested in Rockwood Tuesday and charged with one count of second degree murder and four counts of reckless endangerment.

    According to the report filed by Det. Randy Heidle of the Rockwood Police Department, Sgt. Jared Hall and Patrolman Chris Marney were dispatched to 205 South Ridge Ave. shortly after midnight Tuesday.

  • Roane County Democratic Party holds Labor Day picnic

    The Roane County Democratic Party Labor Day Picnic is Saturday, Aug. 31. 

    Guests will gather at Roane County Park beginning at 11 a.m. and enjoy lunch until 12:30 p.m. The program will begin following the meal.

    State Rep. Gloria Johnson, who represents District 13, will be the featured speaker.

    Johnson will share with us legislative news and her experiences serving in Nashville. 

    Lunch will include barbecue sandwiches, vegetarian sloppy joes, chips, slaw, watermelon, dessert and drinks. 

  • Rockwood shooting investigated

    Rockwood Police Department confirmed a teenager died in a shooting late Tuesday night.

    “We are not treating it as a self-inflicted shooting. It is a homicide investigation,” said Police Chief Bill Stinnett.

    Just after midnight, police responded to a shooting at 205 South Ridge Ave., Rockwood. Officers found a young man suffering from a gunshot wound and attempted CPR, but 19-year-old George Fleagle died at the scene, Stinnett said.

  • $1 million a start for jail expansion

    The Roane County Commission’s Budget Committee voted last week to recommend borrowing $1 million for the jail expansion project.

    The amount is a fraction of what is needed, but necessary to get things going, according to County Executive and Budget Committee Chairman Ron Woody said.

    “We can’t do anything on the jail project until the facilities that are on that prior property are moved,” he said.

    The property includes a one-story apartment building and the County Building and Codes office.

  • Reported shooting turns out to be bogus report

    A report of a shooting off of Woods Chapel Road on Monday turned out to be false.

    It may have been a swatting prank, which is when someone makes a bogus report to prompt a law enforcement response. Police aren’t laughing, however.

  • No evidence found of alleged jail house rape

    An investigation by the Roane County Sheriff’s Office determined that the female inmate who alleged she was raped in the jail wasn’t telling the truth.

    “Her allegations were unfounded,” said Detective Art Wolff, director of internal affairs for the sheriff’s office.

    Allison Renee Pinson, 40, was booked into the Roane County Jail last month. Wolff said she had warrants in both Roane and Cumberland counties.
