  • Christmas Lumber leader John Smith dies

    The longtime former chairman and president of Christmas Lumber Co.  has died.

    John W. Harvey Smith died last Wednesday, Nov. 27.

    A World War II and Korean War veteran who graduated from West Point in 1950, Smith first entered into business with his father-in-law James David Christmas at the Harriman lumber and hardware business before he later bought it.

  • Woman alleges fake police stop, is charged herself

    Courtney Rochelle Griggs, 23, was charged with filing a false report on Nov. 26 for allegedly lying about being stopped by a police impersonator.

    The Roane County Sheriff’s Office said Griggs filed the report on Nov. 25.

    “Griggs claimed to have been stopped by a subject dressed in a law enforcement uniform, driving an unmarked police car,” the report said. “She reported that she had her vehicle and purse searched on Decatur Highway just before the Coastal Market at the Decatur Highway/Loudon Highway junction.”

    A white Ford F-150 lay upside down in an embankment off New Hope Road near Caney Creek Wednesday morning. The male driver refused treatment at the scene.

    The Oakdale Lady Eagles rallied late for a 40-36 win over the Lady Green Waves and the Midway boys won a back and forth affair over the Eagles, 67-63, Tuesday night at Oakdale.

  • Kingston blows past Sweetwater


    The 2013-14 basketball season hasn’t got off to a great start for the Kingston Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets, but that all changed Tuesday night when Kingston swept a pair of games from visiting Sweetwater.

  • Roane State hoops news


    Schedule- Roane State hosts Motlow State tonight (Friday) at 6 p.m. for a pair of TJCCAA games. The Raiders and Raiderettes will also host Volunteer State on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.. These will be the final home games before Christmas break.

    In the Bible there is the story of the "Walls of Jericho". In Tuesday night's basketball encounter, the Temple Baptist Academy Lady Crusaders encountered the "Walls" of Mount Pisgah Christian Academy as Morgan Walls’ 17 points led the Lady Patriots to a 52-42 win.

    Wartburg’s Makayla Poland put up 19 points for the Wartburg Central Middle School Lady Bulldogs en route to a 43-29 win over the Oliver Springs Lady Bobcats Monday night.
