  • Wrestler wants to body slam cancer

    When Scott Humphrey was diagnosed with basal cell skin cancer, he decided he wouldn’t let age or illness keep him out of the fight.

    Instead, Humphrey created the character Doomsday and rejoined the world of wrestling entertainment after a long absence.

    “I said OK, is there anything I want to do? Anything unfinished? Pro wrestling got back in my head,” Humphrey said. “I said I’ve got to be out of my mind. I’m 40 years old. I have no business in a ring, but why not?”

  • Selling TVA? Think again

    President Barack Obama’s plan to explore selling TVA was sharply criticized by U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander.

    “There is no assurance that selling TVA to a profit-making entity would reduce electric bills in the Tennessee Valley — which should be the overriding objective — and it could lead to higher electricity rates,” Alexander said in a prepared statement.

    Obama sent his budget for the federal government’s 2014 fiscal year to Congress on Wednesday.

  • Lady ‘Cats pound out 16 hits in downing Oakdale, 13-3

    After playing five games over the weekend in a tournament in Rockwood it was safe to assume that the Oliver Springs Lady Bobcats might be a little sluggish against Oakdale on Monday.

    Oliver Springs, however, pounded out 16 hits in cruising to a 13-3 victory in five innings over the Lady Eagles at Arrowhead Park.

    The Harriman Lady Blue Devils put together an impressive district victory Tuesday evening on the road at cross-town rival Rockwood with a score of 9-0. 

  • Moore fans 11 in Green Wave shutout

    The Midway Green Wave snapped a four-game losing streak with a 16-7 win over Coalfield Saturday, and then they returned home Monday and started a winning streak with a 6-0 District 3-A victory over Tellico Plains.

  • Richardson homers twice in Midway victory

    The Midway Lady Green Waves picked up another non-district win with a 10-3 victory over Sequoyah Monday evening at Midway. 

    Lady Wave pitcher Alex Richardson had few problems against Sequoyah, scattering six hits and three runs. She walked one and had five strikeouts in picking up the victory.

  • Lady Devils run past Rockwood, 10-4

    It wasn’t pretty at times, but the Harriman Lady Blue Devils picked up a 10-4 victory over Rockwood in a big District 3-A game for both teams Monday evening at Harriman’s Flour Mill Flats.

    For three innings, the Oakdale Lady Eagles hung tough with the Oliver Springs Lady Bobcats, but a nine-run outburst in the top of the fourth inning gave the Lady 'Cats the decisive 14-0 win Tuesday afternoon.

  • Davidson tosses one-hitter in Midway victory

    Logan Davidson provided the pitching and several Midway players provided the hitting as the Green Wave traveled to Monroe County Tuesday evening and knocked off the Tellico Plains Bears in a District 3-A contest, 10-0.
