  • Mitchell homers twice in Kingston win

     

    Kingston’s Cody Mitchell swatted a pair of home runs Wednesday evening to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 10-4 road victory over Fulton.

    Kingston’s victory wasn’t as easy as the final score sounds. The Jackets trailed after five innings of play before scoring seven runs in its final two at bats.

  • Midway picks up first win at Rockwood

     Midway has been playing high school baseball since 1991. During that the Green Wave has won a lot of games, but entering 2014 they had never beaten the Rockwood Tigers at Rockwood.

    That all changed Wednesday evening as Darrell Ruffner’s squad left Mike “Brillo” Miller Sports Complex with an 8-4 victory.

  • Midway bats go cold at Grace

     

    The bats of the Midway Lady Green Waves were as cold as the weather Wednesday evening as Grace Christian Academy picked up a 3-0 victory in a key District 3-A battle.

    Lady Ram pitcher Jessica Webb actually had more to do with the shutout than the weather as she tossed a no-hitter with 18 strikeouts past the Lady Waves.

  • Lady Jackets take two from Scott

     

    The Kingston Lady Yellow Jackets picked up a pair of District 4-AA wins Wednesday evening by knocking off Scott in a doubleheader played at Southwest Point.

    The first game of the day was close with Kingston pulling out a 5-4 victory. The Lady Jackets breathed a little easier in the final game of the evening, winning by a final score of 10-3.

  • Devils pick up soccer win

    The Harriman High School soccer team has been searching for their first win of the season and Monday night they found it when they traveled to Austin-East and downed the Roadrunners, 5-2.

    Midway’s Christian Moore wants to go to college close to home and he wants to play college baseball

    The Green Wave senior now has the opportunity to do both as he signed scholarship papers Wednesday to play at Roane State Community College.

  • Military Matters: Ethan K. Flowers

    U.S. Army Pvt. Ethan K. Flowers recently graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.

    Son of Steve Flowers and Paige Bandy, both of Kingston, he is a 2013 graduate of Roane County High School, Kingston.

    During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship qualification, bayonet combat, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, marches, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, traditions, and core values.

  • Military Matters: Shalyn P. Sipiczky

    Air National Guard Airman Shalyn P. Sipiczky recently graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas.

    Daughter of Lisa Burress and Paul Sipiczky of Kingston, she is a 2011 graduate of Roane County High School, Kingston.

    The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
