  • Church Calendar: May 4-11

    • New Midway Baptist Church, Kingston, will have a free spring fling from 1 to 4 p.m. with food and games for all ages. A basketball game between the church’s youth and adults begins at 4:30 p.m. The church is at 240 New Midway Road.

  • First reunion for OS Colored School slated for May 4

    The Mayme Carmichael School organization Inc. will have the inaugural reunion for Oliver Springs Colored School from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 4 in Oliver Springs Disabled American Veterans Building  at 530 Kingston Ave.

    Alfred Larry Boulware will be the master of ceremonies.

    Several former students will reflect on their school days in Oliver Springs.

  • Elvis tribute shows to help stock food pantry

    Courts of Praise Church, Harriman, will have some king-sized help to raise money and food donations for its food pantry with Memories of Elvis this weekend.

    Rick Hammond will present two shows that pay tribute to Elvis Presley, known as The King of Rock’n’Roll.

    His Memories of Elvis begins at 7 p.m. May 3 in the Princess Theatre. Doors open at 6:30; admission is $10 per person or $5 with donation of canned food items.

  • Woody district Rotary winner

    Midway High School junior Aaron Woody recently won first place in the Rotary District 6780 Four-Way Speech Scholarship Competition.

    Woody, who advanced to the district contest by winning the Kingston Rotary Club contest, was awarded a $1,750 scholarship to the school of his choice.

    He was among nine contestants participating.

    Sixty-six Rotary Clubs in East and Middle Tennessee comprise District 6780.
