    Do you know a sharp high school junior with a strong interest in the sciences and a driver’s license?

    The board that advises the county on environmental issues is looking for someone who meets that description to join its ranks.

    It won’t just be an appearances-only appointment; expanding recycling throughout county schools is one of the goals of the Roane County Environmental Review Board, and a student board member’s research and input could carry a lot of weight.

    When Rockwood’s Hayden Freels walked off the field following a 27-19 loss at Boyd-Buchanan, it appeared that the senior TE/DE had played his last game as a high school football player.

  • Streaking Tigers roll past Devils, 72-46

    The Rockwood Tigers ran their winning streak to seven straight Friday night with an impressive 72-46 victory over Harriman at Dr. Tom W. Evans Gymnasium.

    Rockwood improved to 10-2 with the victory, and they also avenged an earlier 55-48 loss at Harriman.

  • Dad jailed for slugging child who turned down soft drink

    A man allegedly hit his 6-year-old son in the face after the child told him he couldn’t drink juice or soda.

    Brent Isaac Litton, 29, is charged with child abuse in the incident.

    According to the warrant, Roane County Sheriff’s Deputy Billy Walker was dispatched to 123 Willow Springs Road, Ten Mile, on Dec. 30 in reference to a domestic call.
