  • ’Boro bound

It was a long time coming.
The seniors of the Kingston Lady Jackets had been working toward Saturday afternoon’s 4-1 sub-state victory against Unicoi County in Erwin since at least sixth grade.
“I’m very proud of the girls,” Lady Jacket Coach Wendy Johnson said. “They have worked hard all of their lives and it’s apparent they know what they’re doing.
    “God has blessed them.”
The win punched Kingston’s ticket for its first appearance in the softball state tournament for more than a decade.

  • Payback for Kingston delayed

Thursday night brought bad weather, and it brought a region championship game at Loudon High School as the Yellow Jackets from Roane County High School travelled to take on the Redskins in soccer action.

The region championship game was a rematch of the district championship game that was played just one week earlier.

With both the Redskins and the Yellow Jackets winning their contests on Tuesday night, it ensured that they both will advance to the sub state round along with being two of the final 16 teams left in the state in AA soccer.

  • Yellow Jackets out sting Bees

Tuesday night, the Roane County High School Yellow Jackets travelled to Baxter and beat the Bee’s of Upperman High School, 2-1, in a marathon soccer region semi final game.

The Bee’s knocked off Dekalb County, in their district finals to secure the home field advantage in the contest as the Yellow Jackets lost to Loudon in their respected district finals.

  • Kingston can’t hold off Gibbs

    By David W. Doonan

Anemic hitting and errors in defense loomed large in the Lady Jackets 12-1 defeat at the hands of the Gibbs Lady Eagles in their Division 1 2AA Section 2 playoff game at Gibbs High School Thursday evening.

A fifth inning rally was too little too late, and the game was called under the 10-run mercy rule.

Strong pitching by Gibbs was hard to overcome, as their pitcher was hurling a no hitter up to that point.

“We need to play better” commented Kingston coach Wendy Johnson.
