  • OS goes down in high scoring...

    By Melissa Coley

Tuesday night’s game between Sunbright and the Lady Bobcats looked more like an all-star homerun derby rather than a win or go home district tournament game as between the two teams there were six over the fence dingers with the Lady Tigers defeating OS by a final score of 13-10.

Sunbright jumped out to an early lead as Ashlin Trent was the first to go deep as the Lady Tigers took an 8-1 lead. Oliver Springs struggled defensively as Desirae Davis and Kaitlyn Seeber took turns on the mound.

  • Midway runs out of gas

The Midway Green Wave ran out of gas Wednesday evening, losing to Coalfield 7-5 in the elimination game of the District 3 Baseball Tournament at Rockwood’s Brillo Miller Sports Complex.

“We ran out of gas,” Midway Coach Brent Johnson said. “We’re tired.

“But I am proud of every single one of my players.

“Every one of them played their hearts out and I have no regrets.”

The early goings was a pitcher’s duel between Midway’s C.J. Huff and the Yellow Jackets’ Lance Byrd.

  • Tigers roar from behind for title

The Rockwood Tigers had to fight from behind in order to beat Coalfield, 18-7, Wednesday night in the title game of the District 3 baseball tournament at Brillo Miller Sports Complex.

    Coalfield struck first.

“You have to tip your hat to Coalfield,” Rockwood Coach Jake Witter said. “To be out in 81 degree weather to play hard as they did says something.

“They could have just laid down, but they came out fighting and swinging the bats.”
