Monday was a big day for the Oliver Springs Bobcats as they swept the Jellico Blue Devils in a double header at Arrowhead Park, 10-0 and 13-1.
Game 1
Although, the first game of the evening ended with a 10-0 victory for the Bobcats, it was due in no small part to Liam Boeke’s performance on the mound.
The hurler struck out 14 batters while pitching six innings and allowing only three hits and no runs.
Boeke’s pitching worked in perfect tandem with what Oliver Springs was doing on the offensive side of things.
A triple by Jackson Daugherty and a single from Cooper Jones served to score two runs for the Bobcats, giving them a 2-0 lead after one inning of play.
Boake helped his cause in the third frame when he drove in a run on a single.
An error by Jellico brought two more Bobcats home making the score 5-0.
Oliver Springs didn’t look back as it cruised to the win.
The Bobcats tallied nine hits in the game.
Jones and Bryson Rice each collected two hits with Boeke, Daugherty and Rice all driving in a run each.
Game 2
Monday seemed to be Boeke’s day.
After his pitching performance in the evening’s opening contest, his bat in the second game helped to lead Oliver Springs to a 13-1 victory in the second game.
Boeke drove in four runs in the contest on the strength of two hits.
A two-run double in the first inning and a two-run double in the second frame served to be important highlights for the Bobcats.
A big nine-run second inning was also a major contributor to the Oliver Springs victory.
Two errors in the frame scored runs. Eli Brummett brought a runner home on a double, Jones scored a run on a single, Boek hit his previously mentioned double, a ground out by Cole Tedder scored two more and a RBI single from Dakota Adkins rounded out the scoring in the second.
The offensive outburst served to be insurance and more, adding to the already scored four runs in the first inning.
Those four runs came courtesy of Rice singling home a run and then stealing home a little later and Boeke’s two-run double.
Brummtt was the winning pitcher for the Bobcats. He only gave up one and one run in two innings of work.
Boeke and Rice led Oliver Springs at the plate with two hits apiece.
The Bobcats also showed patience while at bat as they racked up seven walks in the contest with Brummett leading the way with two.
Rice also swiped two bases of Oliver Springs’ five total thefts.
Also of note was the fact the Bobcats had no errors for the contest.
