In a doubleheader at Papermaker Field in Harriman on Monday evening, the Harriman Blue Devils couldn’t get things going against the visiting Oakdale Eagles, losing both games of the twinbill, 6-0 and 6-1.
Game 1
It all came down to the fourth inning in the opening contest Monday in the 6-0 loss for Harriman.
The Eagles scored six runs in the frame to take the game.
An error in the field inauspiciously started the scoring frenzy, but it was far from finished.
Isaac Collins brought in a run after getting hit by a pitch and Sydney Gregory followed by grounding out, but not before bringing home another runner.
Another error and a single from Nehemiah Cooney rounded out the inning and the game’s scoring.
Isaac Blake got the start on the mound for Harriman.
Blake pitched four innings, giving up four hits and six runs, none of which were earned. He struck out three and walked one.
Joseph Summers was the winning pitcher for Oakdale. He struck out 11 batters and allowed only two hits.
Jake Hawn and Tray Lee led the Devils with one hit apiece.
Cooney drove in two runs for the Eagles and went two-for-three in the contest.
Game 2
The second game wasn’t as cut and dry as the first as it didn’t take long to get things going on the way to Oakdale winning, 6-1.
Aaron Dunlap put the Eagles on the board in the opening frame on the strength of a run scoring double.
Gregory helped to add to the Oakdale lead in the second inning with a two-run base knock to make it 3-0.
Cooney made it 4-0 in the third when he brought someone home on a sacrifice fly.
Wyatt Garrett was the Blue Devils’ pitcher. He went four innings on the mound, allowing five hits and six runs.
Summers got the win for the Eagles. He only pitched one and one-third innings, but it was enough to set the game’s tone.
Hawn got the lone hit for Harriman.
Although the Devils had some trouble getting hits, they didn’t have any issues in drawing walks.
Harriman tallied eight base on balls in the game with Brayden Turner, Josh Hawn and Trenton Wright collecting two walks apiece.
Wright also stole three bases of the Devils four total thefts.
