Friday evening saw the Kingston Yellow Jackets get the better of the Greenback Cherokees at Fort Southwest Point, winning, 6-1.
Greenback struck first, scoring in the top of the opening inning on a sacrifice fly, but it proved to be all it could muster.
A passed ball in the bottom of the third frame enabled Kingston to score, knotting the score at one.
The Jackets were finally able to take the lead in the fourth.
Kingston scored three runs in the frame due to miscues by the Cherokees and patience from the Jackets.
An error in the field and a passed ball brought home two runs for Kingston.
Things were capped off when Keylon White drew a base on balls to score the third run, making it 4-1.
The Jackets added some insurance in the bottom of the sixth.
G. Brown singled into the outfield with one out, giving Kingston a base runner.
C. Walker was brought in as a courtesy runner for Brown and quickly stole second base.
A line drive single by Aaron Layne advanced Walker to third.
With runners on the corners, Layne swiped second.
At the plate, White hit a grounder a Greenback fielder mishandled for an error and Walker scored, extending Kingston’s lead and putting the score at 5-1.
M. Lawson came in as a courtesy for Walker.
With Layne on third, Keaton Swicegood drove the ball into leftfield for a sacrifice fly to bring Layne home to make it 6-1.
From there, the Jackets were able to hold onto the lead and finish with the decision.
White was the winning pitcher. He pitched a complete seven innings and gave up four hits and one unearned run.
Swicegood and White each had an RBI apiece.
Layne was the leading hitter, finishing two-of-three at the plate as well as swiping two bases.
