The Harriman Blue Devils and Midway Green Wave play a game Monday in Harriman and one Tuesday South of the River but due to the threat of inclement weather, it was decided to play both games as part of a twin bill Monday evening at Papermaker Field.
The change of plans didn’t affect Midway, though as the Green Wave took both games of the doubleheader with scores of 8-0 and 3-1.
First Game
The evening’s first game was largely influenced by five runs in the fifth inning on the way to Midway’s 8-0 win. Travis Shaw singled home two runs, an error scored another and Peyton Steele and Dawson Buckner both scored runs off singles.
The Green Wave scored first in the opening inning on a passed ball starting things off for the game.
Pepper Willoughby scored in the second, adding to Midway’s total.
Braden Buckner got the start on the mound. He allowed three hits while striking out five in five innings of work.
Wyatt Garrett was the losing pitcher. He allowed seven hits and eight runs in five innings while whiffing eight batters and walking six.
Shaw went one-for-three at the plate, batting in two runs.
Caiden Brewer, Steele, Braden Buckner, Dawson Buckner and Willoughby all chipped in a hit apiece in the effort.
C Best went two-for-three at the plate for the Devils.
Second Game
The second game of the evening was a tighter affair with Midway eventually gaining the 3-1 win.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the second frame.
The Green Wave erupted for all three of their runs during the inning. Isaiah Morrison hit into a fielder’s choice to score a run and Rowynn McClure knocked in two more runs on a single.
Evan Lemons was on the mound for Midway. He gave up three hits and one run while working five innings.
Isaac Blake was the Blue Devils’ pitcher. He pitched four innings.
McClure, Shaw and Dawson Buckner each collected a hit for the Green Wave.
Josh Hawn, Tray Lee an Best led Harriman with a hit apiece.
