Zack Peterson’s big day at the plate helped to propel the Kingston Yellow Jackets to a 15-10 victory against the McMinn Central Chargers Monday at Fort Southwest Point.
In a game rife with offense, Peterson stood tall, driving home four runs on three hits.
He hit a two-double in the first inning and a two-run home run over the centerfield fence in the fifth to help keep the Jackets on track.
The game was a slugfest to be sure.
Kingston was able to rack up 13 hits in the game, outdoing the Chargers’ 11 hits.
Things started in McMinn’s favor.
Tyler Oaks brought in a run on a double in the first inning.
Rather than put pressure on the Jackets to catch up, the run served to strengthen Kingston’s resolve.
The Jackets answered in the bottom of the frame with a big performance at the plate, scoring five on five hits with Peterson’s two-run double being a highlight.
When the dust had settled, Kingston had a comfortable 5-1 advantage.
Not to be outdone, McMinn responded in the top of the second with seven runs.
Ayden Plemons’ two-run base hit was the catalyst for the Chargers in the frame on the way to taking an 8-5 lead.
The hits kept coming, though.
Not to be outdone, the Jackets once again rose to the occasion.
Kingston scored five more runs in the third inning to retake the lead with an 11-8 score.
Carson Ladd’s at-bat was noteworthy as he drove in two on a single after working the pitcher to a full count.

Peterson’s two-run blast to centerfield in the fifth kept the tally trending up on the way to the win.
Kingston’s Landon Riter got the win on the mound.
He gave up three hits and two run in five innings of work while whiffing five batters and walking two.
Zac Derrick was tagged with the loss for McMinn. In two and two-thirds innings on the mound, Derrick allowed 10 runs on nine hits, striking out two and walking two.
Peterson, Carson Ladd each finished with three hits. Blake Herrell had two.
