TAXES GOING UP IN KINGSTON

Kingston City Council on Tuesday passed on first reading a 2019-2020 budget that will require a 17-cent property tax increase.

The new tax rate of $1.62 per $100 of assessed value will mean that a taxpayer with a house valued at $100,000 will now pay about $42 more each year.

The budget passed on a 5-2 vote with council members Tara Stockton, Stephanie Wright, Randy Childs, Rebekah Humphreys and Mayor Tim Neal voting for the budget.

Councilwoman Stockton made the motion to put the budget to a vote.
