Roane State’s Powers|Brown Art Gallery is currently hosting an exhibit of Theresa Lee’s artwork titled “A Joyous Journey.”
More than 20 pieces are on display in the gallery and include a mix of mediums such as acrylic, ink, and broken glass. Some of the paintings depict scenic vistas and wildlife while others are more abstract, playing with lines and drops of color.
The artist has a special connection to Roane State.
Theresa Lee is the mother of Dr. Arthur Lee, the college’s beloved geology professor who passed away in 2022.
Dr. Lee had been a member of the faculty at Roane State for more than 20 years.
Last year, family and friends of Dr. Lee helped establish the Dr. Arthur C. Lee Memorial Scholarship Fund with Roane State Foundation. The fund provides an annual scholarship to a Roane State student in Dr. Lee’s memory.
Roane State Foundation staff coordinated the current art exhibit with the help of Bryan Wilkerson, professor of art and the college’s gallery director. They hope this will be yet another way for the college community to reconnect with Dr. Lee’s legacy.
The gallery will host a special closing reception of the exhibit on January 9, 2024, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. ET. Theresa Lee is planning to attend. Students, faculty, staff, and members of the community are invited. A very limited number of catalogs showcasing the pieces in the exhibit will be available to those in attendance.
The Powers|Brown Art Gallery is located in Room 225 of the O’Brien Building on Roane State’s flagship campus in Harriman. The gallery is open Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. ET. Admission is free. Viewings can also be made by appointment.
To schedule a viewing, or for more information about the gallery or current exhibits, contact Bryan Wilkerson at 865-354-3000, extension 4788, or wilkersonbs@roanestate.edu.
