The installation of Kingston’s outdoor fitness court was completed on April 13, according to Mayor Tim Neal.
“We still have a few finishing touches to do before it is open,” Neal said. “There will be a kickoff when it is complete.”
The fitness court is a part of the National Fitness Campaign, which aims to build healthy communities throughout America. There are 428 fitness courts across the United States. Kingston will have the second one in Tennessee. The other one is located in Sweetwater.
“By 2030, the campaign’s goal is to fund 5,000 free outdoor Fitness Courts within a 10-minute bike ride of every American,” the National Fitness Campaign states on its website.
The fitness court provides a full body workout in seven minutes through core, squat, push, lunge, pull, agility and bend exercises.
“The Fitness Court is a full body circuit training center comprised of 7 movement zones,” directions posted on the court states. “Each zone offers hundreds of exercises, and trains different parts of the body through functional movement patterns. Rotate through the zones spending 45 seconds of exercise and 15 seconds rest at each zone for a 7 minute full body workout.”
The fitness court has an app that allows users to track how they do.
The fitness court in Kingston is located at City Park. Neal announced last year that he was planning to bring one to Kingston.
