Low scoring games are usually pitching duels and each team has to make the most of the opportunities they get.
That was the case Friday night at Arrowhead Park as the Oliver Springs Bobcats’ strong pitching and timely hitting led to a 3-0 victory against Roane County rival Kingston.
Things were quiet until the bottom of the second inning.
William Eddings drew a walk and scored a run.
Dakota Adkins followed and hit into a double play, but was able to drive home another score to make it 2-0 for Oliver Springs.
The Bobcats were able to keep the Jackets at bay for the remainder of the game due to strong pitching and fielding.
An insurance run was added in the fifth.
Michael Whiddon bunted into a fielder’s choice back to Kingston pitcher Landon Riter.
Eli Brummett was able to score to make it 3-0 with Cooper Jones and Jackson Daugherty advancing bases.
Daugherty was the starting pitcher for Oliver Springs. He recorded 14 outs over the course of four and two-thirds innings of work.
Brummett came on in relief and got the win.
Together the Bobcat pitching due allowed four hits, no runs struck out a combined eight batters.
Keylon White was the starter for the Jackets. He pitched two and two-thirds innings and notched a strikeout and walked six.
Riter came in to relieve White. He pitched three and two-thirds innings. He allowed one hit and struck out seven batters while walking none.
Daugherty and Bryson Rice got a hit apiece.
Whiddon and Eddings each drove in a run.
Gage Brown was Kingston’s leading hitter, going two-for-three at the plate.
