The Midway Lady Waves faced two Roane County rivals on consecutive days earlier this week and emerged victorious with some big wins.
Monday evening, Midway squared off with the Rockwood Lady Tigers in Rockwood and won 11-1.
Tuesday evening saw the Lady Waves take on the Harriman Lady Devils, winning 14-1.
The win against the Lady Tigers was sparked by Jamie Cardin’s two-hit four RBI day.
Cardin started off her day at the plate in the first inning with a solo home run over the center field fence.
The Lady Waves weren’t done, though.
A ground out by Lorelai Langley and an error from the Lady Tigers added to Cardin’s homer, giving Midway an early 3-0 lead.
Reese Collier hit into a fielder’s choice in the second to bring home run and made the score 4-0.
Just for good measure, Cardin hit a three-run double in the third inning to help Midway jump out to a 10-0 lead.
Cardin’s big double was half of the six total runs the Lady Waves scored in the third.
A single from Kiersten Ruffner and two-run scoring error led to the rest of the runs scored.
Langley was the winning pitcher.
The righty allowed two hits and no runs in three innings of work. She also struck out five batters and didn’t walk any.
Amber Bailey was tagged with the loss. She pitched six innings and gave up 11 runs, seven of which were earned on nine hits.
The Lady Tiger pitcher struck out eight batters and walked five.
Roane State commit Kali Kile was credit with the save.
In addition to Cardin’s two-hit day, Sara Beth Nickell was the other Lady Wave to finish with two hits.
Bailey and Kayleigh Smith were Rockwood’s leading hitters with one each.
The Harriman Lady Devils have long been a power in the district and for the Lady Waves to come away with the win Tuesday evening is feather in their caps to be sure.
Midway didn’t waste time, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning.
Two errors from Harriman led to three runners crossing home plate and a two-run home run by Kile put the exclamation point onto the frames performance.
Going into the second inning with a 5-0 advantage, Collier singled home a run to tack another score on the total.
The Lady Waves kept things rolling in the third with four more runs scored courtesy of singles from Nickell, Cardin, Kyker Jonnston and Kile.
Kile was the winning pitcher for Midway. She pitched three innings, giving up only one run on one hit while whiffing six of the Lady Devil batters.
Getting hit with the loss was Harriman pitcher McKenzie Smith. She pitched four innings, allowing 14 runs, 11 of which were earned, on 10 hits.
Langley got the save.
